William Hood Davidson was a market gardener who wrote about Leith Valley and the ship 'Lady Egidia'. He was also an amateur cinematographer who made a number of films documenting Dunedin life, history, and environment. The Davidson family was one of the early families to settle in Leith Valley, working as fruit growers and saw-millers.

Scope and contents:

This collection includes a copy, including photographs, of 'Owheo, the story of Leith Valley during the pioneering days, 1848-1948' by W.H. Davidson. There is also an earlier draft without photographs entitled 'History of Leith Valley', as well as additional papers relating to Leith Valley history. There are the papers of the short-lived Kiwi Social Club (a Leith Valley social club), papers relating to the 'Lady Egidia' centennial reunion and Davidson's book 'The story of the s.s. Lady Egidia'. There are also thirteen rolls of 16mm movie film covering historical and nature subject matter, along with lists and papers related to these.
