Brown, James Elder



James Elder Brown arrived in Otago on the 'Ajax' in 1849. He erected the first threshing machine, along with his brother and father. Brown was elected first mayor of Milton in 1866 and did all the local surveying and engineering for a number of years. Brown died in 1900.
