Description:

Framed "Goldfish Club" certificate awarded to Warrant Officer Jim Colway in 1942. Membership to the Goldfish Club was open to Air Force personnel who had survived a crash landing in the sea.

Warrant Officer Colway was an Observer on Royal New Zealand Air Force Hudson NZ2029 which took off from Ohakea on the 29th of September 1942 on a routine low-level flight over the Marlborough Sounds. During this flight, the aircraft's propellers struck the water, causing it to dive suddenly into the sea. Colway was the only one of the seven-man crew to survive.
