Description:

Elsie Locke was a children's writer, historian, poet and activist with a number of peace, environmental and women's rights organisations.

Scope and contents:

This collection includes research notes, bibliography and reference notes for 'The Gaoler', Elsie Locke's book on Dunedin's first gaol and Henry Monson, the gaoler. There are also indexes to people and ships in Monson's journal, as well as Locke's transcription of Monson's journal. The collection also includes papers relating to Black Peter's gold discoveries, Balclutha District High School in the 1890s, and Charles Brasch.
