The papers of Henry Abbott Mair consists of materials
accummulated by his eldest daughter Louisa Worsfold and her daughter,
Mrs Dorothy MacGillivray, and includes correspondence, journals and
inventories, articles and statements re. Henry Mair's death, personal
papers and Mair family trees

Henry Abbott Mair was the 3rd son of Gilbert Mair and his
wife Elizabeth (nee Puckey). Henry married Jane Norwood Greenway in
1869. He was engaged in business in the Sth Pacific in partnership
with H.B. Sterndale and also as a government agent in the lobour
trade. It was in this capacity that he was travelling on board the
schooner Isabella when it called in at the island of Santo (Vanuatu)
and he and his party that went ashore were attacked and killed by the
inhabitants
