The Old Girls' Association of Chilton Saint James was founded in 1930 by a group of ex-pupils who formed its first governing committee, and a small printed magazine, referred to as the "news sheet" was issued from the following year. In 1932 the Principal of the School, Miss FitzGerald, took over the presidency of the association, and for the following 30 years the Principal was President.

By 1933 the name of the association had become "Chilton Association". In 1941 it amalgamated with the Chilton House Old Girls' Association, and a new constitution was drawn up. The "news sheet" ceased publication in 1948 and its content was transferred to the School's new magazine "Chiltonian", which for some years was circulated to members of the Association. From 1972 the Association produced a cyclostyled newsletter to members which developed into today's red-covered booklet.

The Chilton Association became an incorporated society in 1967. In 1994 the Association changed its name to Chilton Old Girls' Association Incorporated.

Social service had been one of the aims and objects of the Association since its inception, and particularly during the years of World War II much work was undertaken by members.

The Association since the 1940s has provided a 2-year Scholarship for a daughter or granddaughter of an Old Girl to attend Chilton Saint James School.
