These records document the Centre's activities and collections.

The New Zealand Centre for Photography was established in 1985 to preserve and promote New Zealand photography in all its forms.

The Centre's strength is its pictorial representation but it also holds a considerable number of artefacts and other resource material.

Items held include:

- photographic prints, negatives and transparencies

- books, periodicals (e.g. Australasian Photo Review 1921-1954, Camera NZ, Journals from the NZ Professional Photographers Association, Wellington Camera Club magazines, Dunedin Photographic Society magazines) and pamphlets re photography (over 500 catalogued camera leaflets and instruction manuals)

- cameras (150), photographic equipment and ephemera

- videotapes, audiotapes and tape slide sets.
