Description:

Records of the Presbytery of South Canterbury covering 1873-2002.

Until 1865 occasional Presbyterian services were held in South Canterbury by visiting ministers. In Feb 1865 a meeting of the members of the Presbyterian Church was held and the members resolved to give the Reverend George Barclay the call to the church in the district. The first church was built in 1867.
