Two flying log books, covering letter, record of service and Gosport Flying Instruction booklet of Lieutenant Norman Harold Barlow. Barlow enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps in 1917 and after training in Canada and the United Kingdom he was posted to No 24 Squadron RAF flying SE5a scouts on the Western Front on 3 September 1918. He flew as part of C Flight until 1 January 1919. On the 3, 8, 29 and 30 October 1918, he succeeded in driving German aircraft down damaged.

Barlow returned to his native Christchurch in 1921 and from 1924 to 1937 attended regular refresher courses as part of the New Zealand Permanant Air Force at Wigram.
