Description:

The collection comprises mostly photocopied correspondence, working files, news-clippings, photographs and extracts from published works used by Thomas Lance Rodney Wilson as research material for his book 'Petrus Van der Velden; a catalogue raisonne'. Sydney, Chancery Chambers, 1979.
Petrus Van der Velden (1837-1913) was a Dutchborn painter who came to New Zealand in 1890. In 1898 he left for Sydney where he worked until 1904. During the first eight years of his activity in New Zealand he proved to be a strong influence on a whole generation of Canterbury artists.

"Petrus van der Velden (1837-1913) : a catalogue raisonné" is the standard work of reference on the life and works of Petrus van der Velden, the Dutch painter who spent the years 1890-1898 in New Zealand.
