Description:
The Anchor Shipping and Foundry Company had its beginnings with Nathaniel Edwards and his partners, Bennetts then Symons. They began the shipping ownership in 1862 and traded as Anchor Line of Steam Packets by 1870. In 1867 a workshop for the repair of ships opened on Wakefield Quay.
The Anchor Steam Shipping Co. 1880-1901 (shareholders John H Cock, Sclanders, A Brown and A Donald) and by 1885 the business was J H Cock and Co with Mr Cock as sole shareholder.
In 1901 The Anchor Shipping and Foundry Co Ltd opened.
