The Nelson Acclimatisation Society was formed in 1863 to organise the introduction of exotic animal, bird and fish species. It became an incorporated society in 1868. The organisation became a crown entity under the Conservation Act in 1990 with a name change to the Nelson Marlborough Fish and Game Council. Further records of the society are held at AG 146.

A history of the society to 1968 is contained in:
Sowman, W.C.R. 1981. Meadow, mountain forest and stream.

The records include minute books, correspondence, financial records, adress books and annual reports. Also Marlborough joint ranging financial records and The Nelson Angler's Club minute book.
