Description:

The Court Sherwood Forest was a Stoke order of the Ancient Order of Foresters which was a flourishing freemasonry society in the 19th century. The Sherwood Forest Court was formed in Stoke, Nelson prior to 1872. Members contributed funds to the Court, which paid out sick pay to members. The Court also had an arrangement with its surgeon to attend members' wives and families for a small fee per annum (article Colonist 15 January 1892). This Court was still in existence in 1955.
