Edgar Rollo Neale, c1890-1960, was a son of Harry and Kate Neale. He taught at and was involved with Nelson College for many years from the 1920's to 1950's. He was a sports administrator and secretary of the Nelson Jockey Club and Nelson Trotting Club as well as being a passionate cricket player. He married Florence Parsonage and had a family of 4 boys. He was an accountant and established E R Neale and Son, accountants. He served on the Nelson City Council from 1925-1960, being mayor 1941-1947. He was an MP for Nelson from 1946 and didn't seek re-election in 1956. He died aged 70 in 1960.

Colin V Neale c1921-1992, was a son of Edgar Rollo Neale. He was a member of the Nelson Chamber of Commerce, the Nelson College Old Boys Association as well as other bodies, and served as the Tasman Energy Chairman.
The records are comprised of documents that Edgar and Colin Neale amassed while in positions on various organisations. Many records relate to the Nelson Provincial Progress League’s promotion in particular of a railway and better transport facilities for the region. The papers include minutes, annual reports, correspondence, notebooks, scrapbooks, deeds, prospectus, proposals and publications from the various organisations that the Neale's were involved with.
