Jack and Peggy Laird came to Nelson in 1964 where they began the Waimea Craft Pottery. They were also foundation members of the Potters Clay Company. Jack Laird was the company's technical advisor and by 1971 they had 27 staff. They changed the company in 1977 to Richmond Pottery and Ceramics Co. Jack Laird designed for others potters in particular the Temuka Pottery of New Zealand Insulators Ltd.
The records are comprised of project folders which are mainly of plans for pottery wares but also include letters and some brochures, articles photocopies etc.
