Description:

The Heathcote County Council was incorporated in 1911 from what remained of the earlier Heathcote Road Board formed in 1863, and until a further amalgamation incorporated the Avon and Bromley Ridings within the Christchurch City Council in 1953, was situated to the south of the city in the Port Hills and to the east of the city near the Avon-Heathcote Estuary.

The records consist mainly of letterbooks and inwards correspondence, and other files relating to waterworks and drainage and other schemes, including subdivisions, 1912-1960, deposited in the Canterbury Public Library 28 October 1976. They were transferred to Archives New Zealand in 2001. The bulk of the earlier records of the Heathcote Road Board and County Council are deposited in the Canterbury Museum.
