Historical Notes

The Women's Electoral Lobby (WEL) was formed in Wellington and Auckland prior to the general election of 1975. It began by surveying parliamentary candidates' attitudes on matters important to women and developed into a `non-partisan feminist lobby committed to achieve social, legal, economic, educational and political equality for women'.

Scope & Contents

The records comprise correspondence, minutes, reports, newsletters, membership material and accounts for both the Wellington and national WEL bodies. Also contains press releases, publicity and lobbying material, submissions, conference papers and a large number of subject and clipping files relating both to matters before Parliament or official agencies, to other organisations, and to broader feminist campaigns and organisations.
