Historical Notes

Dr De La Mare was president of the Hamilton Branch of the National Council of Women. In 1934 she resigned in protest against the Council's support of the Religious Enabling Bill and the Bible in schools movement. She was re-elected in 1936.

Scope & Contents

The papers relate primarily to De La Mare's efforts to persuade the Council to withdraw its support for the Bible in schools camapaign, but there are a small number of later papers, including a presidential address for 1938 and a letter about the Women's War Service Auxiliary, dated 1944.
