Description:

Verna Billens was born in Christchurch on 30 May 1899, daughter of Alfred and Flora Billens. She attended East Christchurch School and Christchurch Girls High School. In 1919 she travelled extensively overseas and later throughout New Zealand

In 1939 she donated a memorial light to the Christchurch Cathedral. In 1945 she gifted clothes to the Canterbury Pilgrims and Early Settlers Association. She belonged to the Music Circle and was Treasurer from 1965 to 1968.

These papers comprise Verna Eileen Billens' personal papers 1899-1970 and Billens family papers 1839-1918. The first section includes correspondence, invitations, certificates, diaries (including a travel account) and Music Circle financial records.

The second section contains birth, baptism and marriage certificates , correspondence and family history charts.
