Description:

The history of the Church of England in the Far North began with the establishment of the Mission Station at Kaitaia, under the auspices of the Church Missionary Society in 1834.

These registers, from the Anglican Church at Awanui, were used by the "native teachers" (Maori clergy) who were itinerant; they therefore include many baptisms of people from outside the Awanui district.
