Description:

Graeme Ayson 1912-1990 lived for much of his life in Masterton. He was a photographer with interests in music, theatre and aviation. He owned a Tiger Moth plane and took many aerial photographs from it. He also took part in many amateur productions and taught music from home. These papers reflect some of his interests.

These papers include an extensive collection of photographs from the 1950's, 60's and 70's. They show most of the schools, colleges, streets, buildings, industries, parks and places of interest in Masterton, Aviation photos of Tiger Moths, Gliders and SPANZ planes, private homesteads and farms and portraits of individuals and groups such as school classes and sports teams.

There is also a large collection of musical and theatre programmes featuring many visiting artists 1935-1981, Annual reports for Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Club 1959- 1964, Hansells Sculpture Award Catalogues 1973-1974, Reviews of "Earth and Sky" 1968, Rathkeale school records book 1985, Newspaper cuttings of opening of Rimutaka Tunnel, 1955 Queen Elizabeth's visit 1954, Harlequin Theatre 1986 .
