Description:

Print-maker Kees (Cornelis) Hos and his wife Tina (Albertine), a weaver, came to New Zealand from the Netherlands in 1956. In 1957 they established the New Vision Art Centre in Takapuna, Auckland with the aim of making available high quality work by New Zealand craftspeople. The name New Vision came from the title of a very influential book, The New Vision, by the Hungarian Bauhaus member, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy. At the beginning of 1959 they found premises in His Majesty's Arcade and New Vision became the first retail outlet in Auckland city to concentrated exclusively on the work of New Zealand potters and other craftspeople.

In 1963 Kees and Tina Hos again opened a shop in Takapuna, in the ASB Arcade, Hurstmere Road. This shop closed in 1966.

On 25 March 1965 a spacious gallery was opened above the shop in His Majesty's Arcade to exhibit paintings, graphics, sculpture and studio pottery. The decision to establish the gallery was promoted by the closure at the end of 1964 of the Ikon Gallery, one of the very few dealer galleries in Auckland at that time.

In 1971 Kees Hos moved to Melbourne, where he had been invited to set up and head an art school. Tina Hos remained in Auckland to manage the gallery.

Kees and Tina Hos were also involved in two other businesses: Arta Studio and Ceramic Arts Ltd.

Tina Hos died in September 1976 and Pam Beca (later Donnelly) continued to run the business until it was taken over in 1981 by James Peters. New Vision closed in October 1986.
