The F1 (Factory One) sculpture project was set up to educate New Zealander's on what sculptors do, how they do it and how they benefit the community! In order to achieve this the sculptors took over a large (2,800 square metres) disused factory in Tory Street, Wellington. The project had four facets.

Firstly, exhibitions from over 100 sculptors including some from Britain and Australia.

Secondly, workshops which also embraced experimental visual art like dance, video film, sound work and audio visual works.

Thirdly, lectures and seminars to enable artists, students, teachers, art gallery staff and the public to meet in forums and panel discussions on aspects of sculpture.

Fourthly, public performances, jazz concerts, film, video and slide presentations.

The exhibition ran from November 8 - December 2 1982 and received sponsorship from NZ Sculpture Council, QE II Arts Council and National Art Gallery.
