The National Archives UK and the Association of Independent Museums (AIM) have co-created an excellent online publication “Successfully Managing Archives in Museum.”
“This new guide is aimed at any museum staff or volunteers who are interested in managing collections. It will help people facing practical issues around managing their archive collections but hopefully it also raises awareness and understanding of archive sector standards and how archive services operate” Emma Chaplin, co-author
The guide is a useful starting point for considering archive collections and their management and introduces concepts to get to grips with differences between museum and archival documentation. Although the guide focuses on the needs of museums, the principles can be applied to archives in a variety of settings and sizes.
