Description:

Wide variety of material documenting the history of the transport company Andrew & Andrew Transport Limited.
Folder contains documents, original newspaper clippings, advertisements, newsletters “The Andrew & Andrew Group” 1978-1980, magazine articles, black and white photographs and relating to Otahuhu firm Andrew and Andrew Transport Limited. Ticket to Andrew & Andrew Cricket Social, held 25 April 1968. Includes names, addresses and telephone numbers of past employees contacted for social event held in 2004. Funeral services of James ‘Pete’ Peterson, Owen Terence Hannigan, John Brownlow Horrocks, Charles Clifford Cusack, Stanley Haslup and James McBurney Quinn. The New Zealand Express Transport Group Staff Newsletter, No.10, Spring 1981 where Andrew & Andrew group are welcomed as they join the organisation. NZExpress company brochure, 1987.

Background information
Frank Andrew arrived from Cornwall in 1860, his family moved to Otahuhu in the 1870s. He established F. Andrew and Sons Seed, Grain and General Merchants and Omnibus Proprietors in Great South Road. They began the first bus service from Otahuhu to Auckland. Just before the turn of the century F. Andrew and Sons becoame Andrews Sons and Co. Two of the sons, Fred and Bill started operations as Andrew and Andrew along Great South Road, on the corner of High St. Following the death of Fred Andrew in 1941 Andrew and Andrew Ltd. Was incorporated and the Andrew family severed its links with the company’s operations. In 1946 A.S. Bailey purchased the business. With the death of Arthur Bailey in 1953 his son-in-law, J.B. Horrocks became Chairman of Directors.
In July of 1981 it was announced that New Zealand Express was to take over Andrews Transort Holding Ltd. The holding company for Andrew and Andrew group of companies. The main companies in the group were Andrew and Andrew Transort Ltd, Andrew and Andrew Transport Waikato Ltd, Red Express , Andrew and Andew Rental Cars and Professional Documents Storage Ltd.
