Biography:
The New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) is a professional organisation which represents about ninety percent of architects in New Zealand. Founded in 1905 it provides services to New Zealand architects as well as promoting architecture that enhances the New Zealand built environment.

In 1975 the members of NZIA Southern Branch, decided to record images of Port Chalmers township and port, prior to the container terminal being built. Members of NZIA Southern Branch photographed the area with the support of the NZIA, Port Chalmers Borough Council and Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ).

Scope & Content:
Photographic slides of Port Chalmers. The team divided the town into areas which they numbered as series. There are 223 slides housed in a metal slide box; documentation, including a handwritten list of slides in series 1, 4 and 6, a small folder containing a typed list of slides in series 1, and maps showing the locations of photos taken
