Ernie Blair was brought up in Opoho, Dunedin, during WWI, and returned to live there when he retired. Before his death in 1982, and after a discussion with George Griffiths of Otago Heritage Books, Blair set about collecting information about the history of Opoho, with the aim of using the material for a booklet about the suburb. His material was used by Elizabeth Kerse in 1987 to write the booklet On the Slopes of Signal Hill, by Ernie Blair and Elizabeth Kerse, Otago Heritage Books, Dunedin, 1988

Scope & Content:
Ernie Blair’s photocopied typed notes of his research about the suburb of Opoho. The notes record the history of the development of the different streets, of the institutions such as the shops, school and church, and information about the families and individuals within the community over the years.
