Sir Barry Curtis held the position of Mayor of Manukau City for 24 years. In all, he served the area for nearly five decades. This is part three in a series of interviews undertaken by Dionne Christian with Sir Barry at his home on 12 March 2010.

The series comprises eight interviews, 30a to 30h.

In this part Sir Barry talks about establishing the firm Hrstich, Curtis, Simmons and Associates in late 1967 and the work they were undertaking. He discusses his father’s death and his entry into local body politics in 1968 as a Manukau City Councillor, (also the youngest member of Manukau City Council) and the establishment of the new Manukau City Centre.
