Description:

Francis Keenan was born in County Down, Ireland, in 1826 and died in Sydney in 1885. He was a ship's master in New Zealand in the 1860s and 1870s. He served as captain of various vessels around the Catlins.

Scope and contents:

This item includes 3 certificates issued to Francis Keenan. They are a master's certificate from the Pilot Board of Victoria (1859), a master's certificate from the Pilot Board of New South Wales (1861), and a New Zealand master's certificate of service stating he had been employed as master for eleven years (1873).
